CHRC Partners with GHESKIO to Provide Relief in Haiti

This fund-raising program is specifically designed to provide direct support to the GHESKIO Centre located in the heart of Port-au-Prince. The latter is an NGO that has been conducting ground-breaking research and providing medical care to people with HIV/AIDS and related diseases under challenging conditions since 1982 (http://www.gheskio.org/).

Since the earthquake, GHESKIO Centre has been providing humanitarian assistance and emergency care to thousands of displaced persons on its compound while it continues to provide medical care to people with HIV/AIDS. At present, the situation in the compound is extremely challenging because of the diversity and the dynamic nature of the needs.

The money received by the CHRC will be sent to the GHESKIO Centre where it will be used to support its activities. These currently range from purchasing food, water, tents, generators, fuel, Tuberculosis tests and other medical and laboratory supplies, as well as other equipment/supplies to maintain the compound in order to prevent the outbreak of vector-borne diseases such as Malaria and Dengue. The funds will also serve to rebuild GHESKIO infrastructure and equipment that were damaged by the earthquake.

Prof. Jean Pape, the Founder and Director of the GHESKIO Centre, received the prestigious Research Award at the CHRC Awards Ceremony in 2009.
