It serves countries that are members of the Caribbean Community [CARICOM], providing advice to their Ministries of Health and other stakeholders and generally supporting research related activities. |

CHRC WITH HAITI CHRC initiated a fund raising program to assist Haitians severely affected by the massive earthquake of January 12th. CHRC has developed a Health Research Policy for the Caribbean. The goal of the Policy is to guide the strengthening of systems so as to increase the production, access and use of essential research and thus facilitate the crafting of evidence-based health policies, programmes and practices. The key components of the Policy document include the proposed structure for health research systems in the Caribbean (at the national and regional levels) and strategies to promote their strengthening. It is expected that it will be adopted (or adapted) by CHRC member countries and thus provide the necessary framework as they continue the process of developing/strengthening functional national health research systems. |
| Annual Scientific Meeting |
The dissemination of health research findings is one of its more important functions and CHRC has successfully hosted its Annual Research Conference every year since 1956. Usually held the third week in April, this is the largest health research conference in the English speaking Caribbean with over 200 delegates in attendance. |

| Clinical Guidelines |
Consistent with its mandate to promote the use of research evidence to inform practice, the CHRC has developed clinical guidelines for the most prevalent chronic diseases in the Caribbean. These protocols are based on international best practice but are fashioned to take the culture, economic situation and health systems in the Caribbean into account. |

| Training Workshops |
CHRC has been playing an increasingly important role in building the capacity of persons employed at Ministries of Health and other health agencies, enabling them to conduct essential research and related activities. |

| Technical Support |
CHRC staff members spend a tremendous amount of their time providing technical support to various partners. Assistance is given in two man areas – research and M&E. CHRC Research Scientists work with institutions and individuals conducting research, providing support in research design, protocol and instrument development, data analysis and report preparation. |
